My wife Nichole and I got married in 2013 after a somewhat dramatic dating life. Funny story on how we met—I was a small group leader at a recovery ministry in Denton and at the time the leaders all had to share a 25 minute testimony. After I had completed my testimony (and baring all struggles in my life) she came up to talk to me and said it was brave to share. Nothing like meeting your wife just after revealing all your sin (but more importantly how God saved me out of it!). In October 2014 we added our first edition to the Peringer fam, Dorothy “Dottie” Jean, a curious, happy, determined girl. We prayed for her to be a joy-bringer to the world and so far it seems God is faithful, she loves everyone she meets. So far we’re a three-piece, but looking to expand in the near future!

My Story:
I was raised in eastern Washington in a small town, population 450. I wasn’t raised in a Christian environment, but a loving home in a great town. It wasn’t until college that I actually knew who Jesus was and my senior year was when I knew it was for real. I then moved to Bowling Green, Ohio for my masters degree and joined a great small church which became my first church family. I grew in knowledge and faith there for five years before moving to Denton in 2009 to start my doctoral work at University of North Texas. After finishing my PhD in 2014 I decided it was time for a change and felt God was moving me toward work in the church. This led me to RPC in the fall of 2014.

Something Most People Don’t Know:
I like to list things numerically, so here’s a small list:
1) All of my degrees are in music composition. I compose music for many mediums and have had music performed all around.
2) I am also a guitar player. I was once a decent classical guitarist, but mostly play worship music now.
3) I am actually a goofball.
4) I love games, especially communal board games. My favorite game though is Cribbage, which I’ve found out isn’t too popular in Texas.

My Trademark Expression:
Been there. This phrase can be used when, A) I’ve actually been there, or B) I haven’t been there. It works for everything.

Besides the Bible, my recommended reading would be:
Any and all C.S.Lewis (especially The Great Divorce), Systematic Theology–Wayne Grudem, Knowing God–J.I. Packer, most anything by Paul David Tripp and Tim Keller, The Valley of Vision (a book of Puritan prayers), The Rest is Noise–Alex Ross.

I’m most excited about:
Seeing people grow and thrive in faith, even through difficult situations. One of my favorite snippets of scripture is Romans 5:1-5, specifically “not only that, but we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, and hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love have been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us.” We have the opportunity to praise, glorify, and live authentically even when being pressed down by the world.

My Favorite TV Shows:
Seinfeld, 30 Rock, Parks and Recreation, Arrested Development, The Office, The IT-Crowd, Breaking Bad, Walking Dead.

In my free time, I usually:
Study music, read, play guitar, re-watch my favorite TV series, ride bikes, play games, laugh, have good talks, drink coffee (that happens all the time).
