What do justification and sanctification mean?

  • Answer: Justification means our declared righteousness before God. Sanctification means our gradual, growing righteousness.
  • Scripture: To those who are elect…according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, in the sanctification of the Spirit, for obedience to Jesus Christ and for sprinkling with his blood: May grace and peace be multiplied to you. (1 Peter 1:1-2)
  • Prayer: Almighty God, we pray that having been declared righteous by you, we would give our lives entirely to you. Help us to worship you alone and always. Help us to grow in righteousness until the day when we will be renewed fully in your image and be received into the glory which has been attained for us by the blood of your only Son. Amen.
