How Your Giving Helps

Your giving helps RockPointe make more and better followers of Christ in our community and around the world. Your generous gifts go towards helping individuals in need, supporting local and international missions, planting churches, and so much more!

Missions

RockPointe Church is committed to reaching people for Christ in our city, in our nation, in our world. We support missionaries and mission organizations throughout the globe – Africa, Asia, Europe, North and South America.

Church Planting

Our 10:50 vision is planting or supporting 50 churches by December 2030. While this is a long term goal, we make strides everyday to put our vision into practice with the help of you, our congregation!

The meaning of the word tithe is “a tenth part” (ie 10%). In Leviticus 27:30, the Lord is speaking to Moses and says “A tithe of everything from the land, whether grain from the soil or fruit from the trees, belongs to the Lord; it is holy to the Lord”. The tithe was to be set apart, not used for any other purpose and applied to everything.

Old Testament scripture describes firstfruits as the giving of the first and best to the Lord as we recognize all that we have belongs to Him. A tithe represents the amount of the offering and firstfruits represent the nature of the offering.

The tithe is a demonstration of obedience and was never a ceiling for giving, only a floor. The Old Testament often refers to “freewill” or “voluntary” offerings which were above and beyond the tithe amount and were a demonstration of love, joy and worship. Exodus 36:3 says “the people continued to bring freewill offerings morning after morning” in order to accomplish the building of the sanctuary

Certain Old Testament laws such as sacrifices were clearly rescinded in the New Testament. No such passage in the New Testament specifically states tithing is no longer valid. In Acts 15 the apostles and elders, in response to the specific concern of circumcision, sent a letter to the Gentile believers saying it seemed good not to burden them with anything beyond the following requirements (food sacrificed to idols, sexual immorality etc.). Tithing was not listed.

Jesus seems to affirm tithing in Matthew 23:23 in speaking with the teachers of the law and Pharisees. Although his point was to expose hypocrisy the expectation regarding tithing is clear. For issues such as murder, adultery and the taking of oaths Jesus made it clear his standards were higher.

Scripture refers to a “tithe of everything”. Retirement, life insurance, health insurance etc. are all part of God’s provision for us. Taxes are no different than our utility bills or car payments. The fact that an employer may withhold these amounts from our checks does not change the nature of the income.

Upon completion of RockPointe’s Membership Matters Class, people who so choose have an opportunity to affirm their intent to tithe as a part of their membership commitments. RockPointe affirms the discipline of tithing with the understanding that the New Testament uses tithing as a guide rather than law.
